| Tardive Dyskinesia is a terrible disorder that affects hundreds of thousands of people even though it’s something that could have been prevented. Instead of doing everything they can to prevent patients from developing the disorder that they may have to live with the rest of their lives, doctors continue treatments that cause their patients to develop it, usually without the patient’s knowledge of what could happen. In order to keep it from afflicting you or someone you love, you need to know exactly what TD is and what causes it. This disorder is not well known. After all, Tardive Dyskinesia has been kept as hushed up as possible, because it’s in the best interests of the big pharmaceutical companies to keep it that way. The fact that some of their best-selling drugs are causing this problem is a fact that they just don’t want the general public getting hold of. Government regulations have compelled them to mention TD on their information sheets as a possible side effect. Doctors are also aware of what these medications can do to patients, but they continue to prescribe them. It’s a bad situation that innocent people get caught in the middle of. Tardive Dysknesia powers the brain which makes it sensitive to dopamine. This affects the part of the brain that controls movement, causing the person to be unable to control certain movements. TD often manifests itself in involuntary distortions of the facial features. The person with the disorder may make faces, have a protruding tongue, smack their lips repeatedly, or constantly seem to be sucking or chewing. Shaking or jerking are involuntary movements that can affect a patient's limbs. There are many different drugs that can cause this disorder in a patient. These neuroleptic drugs help treat psychoses and other gastrointestinal problems. If you are interested in Tardive Dyskinesia information you may also be interested in tardive dyskinesia case There are also some non-neuroleptic drugs which can result in Tardive Dyskinesia. These contains generally used drugs in the treatment of depression, such as Prozac, Zoloft, Tofranil, and Elavil. Before taking any of these medications you must ask your doctor and make sure that he is prescribing the minimum required dosage for a minimum period of time. Long-term use of any of these drugs has been found to bring on the onset of TD. It may be with them for the rest of their lives, even if they stop taking the medication that caused it in the first place, once people develop the disorder. The problem may go away if it is stopped, but it also could aggravate the problem. | |
